Three Days Away

Smells Like Football To Me

This one is long overdue.

I blame that partially on me pretty much saying goodbye to the summer last weekend, we are full go over here at Squarin’ Around central! Actually as we speak I’m gearing up for this week’s season preview episode with Ishmael Johnson of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

For the past two weekends, I have spent at least part of my Saturdays at UFCU Stadium checking out the team.

We’ll get into it more in this week’s episode, but after last season, expectations have never been higher in Bobcat Land. In the words of ACDC, “it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.”

This week the team released it’s first depth chart (if you click on this, keep scrolling till you see it our game notes are beefy) and essentially every media mention for the past four months has been positive in nature — Finley and JDL situation aside.

If you talk to anyone on the team or close to it, they are in true pre-season form, giving you the most statesman-like answers. The entire experience has truly been inspiring? Yes, question mark. I’m not sure to be honest.

As I mentioned before, I’ve spent some time with the Bobcats this summer and they are not perfect. Who is at this phase of the season? I just no longer firmly believe they’ll finish 12-0, the team I saw scrimmage this past weekend at best loses one game. What is failure though to a fan base that has pretty much been starved for anything positive? Is nine wins all of a sudden bad?

These are the things on my mind ahead of week one. What do you think?

Last week we got to talk to Texas State Athletics Director Don Coryell and hear his “State of the Athletics Department” talking about a whole lot going on around the facilities and programs on campus.

Tons of fun in store for week one, we’ll have a much better idea of where this team stands after this week, to be honest, I’m just glad football is back.

This season if I’m not writing for DCTF, I’ll write up a game recap for you lovely subscribers and have some of our best hits from the game. So, tell your friends to subscribe!

Thanks for Squarin’ see ya at the Wack.
