The Bowl Bound Bobcats!
We did it part 2!
Woohoo!
Yay, team! The Bobcats are bowl-eligible for a second year in a row and the 2025 recruiting class continues to get more stacked as we round out the 2024 football season.
Kinne called it the biggest recruiting weekend at Texas State with a marquee 58-3 win over Southern Miss.
I got to chat with him a little bit about this during the Sun Belt Conference Media availability call, but you know the team would probably like to keep those figures a little closer to the vest at this point in time, fair. But he did mention some flips!
Now, for a team that had college football playoff hopes at one point in the year, this feels like it was always supposed to happen, but in the words of G.J. Kinne, “it’s hard to win games in college football.”
In recent weeks we have seen true freshman Brad Jackson step WAY up beyond what anyone thought he would to really weasel himself in at QB 2, granted when he is on the field, he is treated as a true run option more often than not.
Also, in your face to the so called “Jakob Curse,” I said we would dog walk Southern Miss and ride off into the sunset of bowl-eligibility and we did. But I think even a blind man could have seen that one coming. The Bobcats pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for than now 1-9 Golden Eagle team and will have another shot to do something similar to a struggling Georgia State squad.
The Panthers have notched one more win (2-9) on their belt this season than the Golden Eagles. The win against Vanderbilt was impressive but now stands out as more of an anomaly or luck than skill. Again, to quote G.J. Kinne, “it’s hard to win games in college football.”
This weekend is senior night for the Bobcats who are set to once again dominate a struggling team, putting more grease on the wheel of a team now headed full speed at a bowl game still yet to be decided. But hey, we’re moving in the right direction.
Things get a little scarier next week, when Texas State plays South Alabama on a Friday at 2:30 P.M. in Mobile Alabama. The fourth and final mid-week game for the team. It has been a marathon of coverage, but we’re nearing the end and I can almost hear the “Bobcat Basketball,” chants in the distance.
Unfortunately, or fortunately for me, I will miss out on the Bobcats piledriving the Panthers this weekend. I’m nominated for my first Emmy award with some of my favorite people at KENS5 and the award show is in San Antonio, so I had to go. So, I will be watching on my phone, hoping we all win and hoping for a dope bowl game placement.
Thanks for Squarin’, thanks for the love on last week’s episode and the live show!
More to come!
