It's Time for Bobcat ... BASKETBALLLLLLLLLLLLLL

BOWL SZN IS HERE

Greetings all!

I wanted to put this one out after we got a chance to talk to Texas State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Terrence Johnson.

As it stands ahead of conference play, the ‘Cats are hot (7-3 overall)! For those of you who are just tuning into the basketball team in the midst of the bowl season for the football team, welcome to the damn show!

Last year was the first year in Coach Johnson’s tenure as head coach that he had no coaches or players who had been around for the Danny Kaspar era.

That’s huge.

And it looked like Johnson had the team and staff around to legitimately make a run in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

But, tragedy struck pretty much immediately after I put pen to paper and picked the Bobcats to finish 3rd in the SBC for the DCTF basketball magazine.

One of their very highly touted transfers, Colten Benson, got wrapped up in some NCAA transfer drama. Essentially, and this is the abridged version of the story, the NCAA ruled that because Colten had transferred from West Point’s sister school, that was essentially two transfers in one year. Insane.

So, Benson was benched and then seniors Tyrel Morgan and Drue Drinnon both suffered season-ending injuries.

Tough to win games when that happens.

But then, something special in the tournament happened, the Bobcats do what they have done since Johnson took the reigns, the ‘Cats won three straight games as an 11th seed, but lost their fourth to the James Madison Dukes. The same sort of thing happened to the team in 2023, only that year they lost their fourth and final against ULL.

So, this season is a long time coming for coach Johnson. He believes he has the team, staff and some luck on his side to keep this thing rolling.

Always great catching up with him, can’t wait to see how things shake out headed into conference play.

Thanks for Squarin’
