Happy Anniversary!

40 Years of Being a D1 Athletics Program

Top of the Mornin’ to ya, Cuatro Corners Cartel Members!

40 years ago (to the week not necessarily the date) Texas State made the jump from D2 to D1 across all sports.

How do I know that? My good buddy Colton McWilliams hopped on the podcast and told me about it this week. Honestly, I doubt most people even knew the timeline for it to begin with. It’s not like a wedding anniversary, but it's pretty close, we need to remember these things!

About two weeks ago, Colton hit me up saying he wanted to come on the show and talk about the subject at length and I was instantly fascinated. Not necessarily at the history itself, but the “how the hell did we get here now aspect.” As we know, for what feels like the better part of a decade, you can be D1 and still not be shit.

Now that the team (I should probably say TEAMS, but we know I’m talking about football here) is playing to its fullest capabilities, it feels sort of like we can go - “yeah, yeah we are D1, man and we’ve actually been D1 for quite some time!”

Especially now with how weird and wacky college football is with the transfer portal, conferences coming and going; this is what legitimately matters. For how long, is yet to be determined, but still a very cool nugget of history.

Poll of the week:

Our poll of the week is also talking about conferences, or lack thereof, how should the Sun Belt approach the absence of the PAC-12? As always shoutout our guy Morgan Davidson for cooking up this week’s poll. (Sorry it was later than usual, my bad I was cooking up episode 100!) If you have an idea for a poll, shoot us or the main man himself a DM on X @TXMoose70!

Supreme July content vibes honestly this week with the holiday and everything, but we’re nearly in the home stretch and we can almost smell the football season! More fun to come :)
