Ain't No Such Thing As Halfway Shares
Remember, we're talking about soup. Repeat, we are talking about soup
I thought about writing this newsletter immediately after baseball came home with that big win over the No. 5 Longhorns, but I’m glad I held off.
Not that baseball doesn’t deserve the attention, you all know how much I love that team.

Something else grabbed my attention over the last few days.
On my way back to DCA, I stopped for a great lunch near the White House. People sometimes think that I’d be happy with half a bowl of soup. After all, a cup of soup is better than no soup at all. But for me, it’s a full bowl or nothing. Back to God’s country!🐾⭐️

Number one, it’s now April. For months now, every PAC-12 affiliate account has been chirping that Texas State will be announced as a member school at the end of March.
But, it’s now April 5th as I write this newsletter and the Bobcats are still in the Sun Belt. What gives? I thought all those Boise State people were right?
To keep it blunt, ain’t no one know anything!
That point alone is why Andrew and I have largely been staying out of the conversations. We don’t say anything unless it’s a done deal. We’d know if it was. The PAC-12’s now long-awaited media deal plan or strategy has yet to be revealed and we still sit in the Sun Belt.
Back to Kelly’s tweet.
I’m not going to dissect this like other writers have, mostly because I have an actual relationship with the president of Texas State University.
Kelly was in D.C. this week. On his way back home, he says he stopped for lunch near the White House and asked for a cup of lobster bisque.
His next sentence is what grabbed people’s attention.
“People sometimes think that I’d be happy with half a bowl of soup. After all, a cup of soup is better than no soup at all. But for me, it’s a full bowl or nothing.”
A lot of people have taken that to mean that negotiations with the PAC-12 have hit a stalemate after Texas State was seemingly offered a partial share of the media deal instead of a full share.
If we’re not talking about soup, this would mean the university would miss out potentially on millions of dollars over the length of the deal. Keep in mind, Texas State is entertaining all offers because the Bobcats are very much about a bag right now.
In conversations I have had with key stakeholders, people have brought up travel-related expenses, the current Sun Belt Conference media deal, and even potential future marketing, as well as NIL money that could come down the pike with a switch in conferences.
Again, though, we’re talking about soup here. Lobster bisque in specific.
Where that leaves conversations with the PAC-12 or any other conference is beyond me. The only question I asked Kelly after that post was if he liked “bread bowls.”
I thought that was a tongue-in-cheek way of asking about money, but, again, we are still talking about soup, so who knows.
His response: “I LOVE bread bowls!”
Still not a ton of answers, still not a clear timeline and I know fans are getting anxious.
I think we could all take a lesson from my therapist.
I’m in the dating world and sometimes that can be scary. You meet people, you develop relationships, sometimes they falter out, sometimes they stick around. But, my homegirl Monica reminded me that I actually have a ton to offer any partner.
The same can be said about Texas State.
I’ve eliminated the anxiety of these dating world thoughts I have had the same as the anxiety of a move in conferences.
I know that I and Texas State have a lot to offer any partner now and in the future.
We all love this university and anyone who doesn’t like us on the first chance probably isn’t worth our time. Especially if the money isn’t right.
Luckily for my dating life, the money thing doesn't come up too often.
I wish there was a clearer answer I could give you tonight, but we might just have to keep swiping and remind ourselves that we are worth a whole share of lobster bisque.
I know we’re worth it.
This week we’re on with our guy Colton McWilliams and talking Tombstone
